Horsemanship Classes!

At Fifth Gospel Equine, every class is designed to nurture both horsemanship and heart. From our youngest riders to our high school students, each level builds on the foundation of natural horsemanship, spiritual growth, and biblical mentorship.

We believe true connection with a horse begins with trust, patience, and understanding—and that same principle applies to our walk with God. Through hands-on learning, Scripture, and prayer, students not only grow in their equestrian skills but also in character, confidence, and faith.

Whether your child is brushing a horse for the first time or refining advanced riding techniques, our mission remains the same: to help them become skilled, compassionate horsemen and women who reflect the heart of Christ.

Our Classes

Each class at Fifth Gospel Equine is centered around the principles of natural horsemanship. Our goal is to bridge the communication gap between horse and rider while nurturing confidence, patience, and understanding.

Every student learns well-rounded horsemanship, including:

  • Grooming and saddling

  • Groundwork and riding

  • Horse care and maintenance

Throughout each session, we integrate God’s Word and biblical mentorship, helping students grow not only in skill but also in character and faith.

We see it as a sacred responsibility to be good stewards of the little hearts God has entrusted to us, guiding each student with love, patience, and the truth of Christ.

Lil' Equestrians

Our Lil’ Equestrians class is designed for children in Pre-K through 2nd grade. Because of the younger age group, this class emphasizes building confidence, safety, and foundational horsemanship skills in a fun, hands-on environment.

Students focus on horse safety, balance, coordination, teamwork, godly character, motor and cognitive skills, and basic Montessori principles. While riding is included, much of the class involves groundwork and interactive learning to help children feel comfortable and capable around horses.

Once a child can independently ride, lead, and follow basic directions, they’ll be ready to graduate to the Elementary class.

Elementary

Our Elementary Horsemanship class dives deeper into the essentials of horsemanship. In this level, students learn to independently prepare their horses—including grooming, saddling, and caring for their assigned horse throughout the entire class.

We focus on fundamental groundwork, equine psychology, and applying those lessons in the saddle to strengthen riding skills and communication.

Throughout each session, we also incorporate spiritual growth through godly character, prayer, and Scripture, helping students connect not only with their horse but also with the heart of God.

Through this process, students build a true connection and partnership with their horse, learning that effective horsemanship begins with trust, patience, and faith.

Middle School

Our Middle School Horsemanship class welcomes riders of all experience levels—from beginners to those building intermediate skills. Because age doesn’t always define ability, we tailor each lesson to meet students right where they are.

This class continues to develop core horsemanship skills taught in the Elementary program but moves at a faster, more challenging pace. Advanced students work on refining groundwork, mastering communication, and developing new riding techniques through various disciplines and maneuvers.

We also recognize that middle school can be a challenging and transitional season of life, so each session includes time for biblical teaching, prayer, and discussion that helps students apply godly principles in everyday life.

Our goal is to help students grow not only as confident horsemen and women—but also as young leaders grounded in faith and character.

High School

Our High School Horsemanship class builds on the foundation set in earlier levels, welcoming riders who are typically advanced beginners and up. Students continue to strengthen fundamental horsemanship skills while mastering techniques they’ve previously learned.

For more experienced riders, this class introduces groundwork at liberty and focuses on refining riding disciplines, precision, and advanced maneuvers. Most of the class time is spent in the saddle, helping students grow in confidence, control, and partnership with their horses.

As these students approach adulthood, we emphasize responsibility, leadership, and maturity, always keeping Christ at the center of all we do. Our goal is to help each student develop not only as a skilled equestrian but as a faith-filled young adult ready to walk in purpose and integrity.

Before your child begins classes at Fifth Gospel Equine, please take a moment to review the important information below. Our goal is to create a safe, faith-filled, and educational environment where every student can grow in both horsemanship and character. These guidelines will help you and your child know what to expect as we work together to make this experience meaningful and enjoyable for everyone.

  • Our class schedule for group classes will be provided to each student when they sign up for their specific class based on availability.
  • The first couple classes are a little slower as your child learns to groom and tack up. After your child is approved by the trainer you may come 15-20 minutes early to get your horse ready and stay late to cool your horse down and untack in order to allow for the whole hour of riding. This will be discussed more at the first class. (Does not apply for our Lil’s class)
  • In our program we believe in teaching all aspects of caring for and riding a horse. This includes grooming, tacking and untacking, ground work, medical care, horsemanship, stall maintenance, feeding, bathing, hippology, horse psychology, hoof care, and so much more. Your child will learn to ride several different horses throughout the classes to help them gain knowledge and experience as a rider.
  • There are opportunities for students to stay later to help with barn work. Please see the trainer if this is something that interests you.
  • Down the road we will open up opportunities to be a part of an equestrian team for students that are interested and dedicated to the equestrian sport. This will involve regular practices and competitions.
  • We are a Christian program so we pray at each class, use biblical principals, and scripture reading and memorizing.
  • I ask that your child attend classes regularly to gain the full benefit but if you need to miss a class please give us a 24 hour notice if at all possible. We encourage signing up for our bundle deal at $130 for 4 classes to help us with program planning. If your child misses a class you will not lose that money, it will go towards another class. It is $35/class or $130/for 4 classes. Payments made by cash, check, Venmo, or through our website. Please turn in paperwork (or email the completed paperwork) and money within 24 hours of your child's first class.  Checks payable to Fifth Gospel Equine and Venmo @FifthGospelEquine (last four digits 0643).
  • You will need to turn in a signed Policy form and Release form before attending classes at our farm.
